John, we hear this from clients periodically with respect to their retirement. They’ll talk about their number. Whether it’s $2 million or $5 million, $8 million, should I get more conservative as I approach retirement? How should we really be thinking about retirement?
Well, it’s not just a number, and it certainly isn’t the finish line. Decades ago, retirement was just a few years. Now, it’s a whole new chapter in your life, like another career. And even within that, there’s three phases. There’s the go-go years, the slow-go years, and the no-go years. And so, it perhaps may span 20 to 30 years.
And so, some of your investments still have a long-time horizon. And that’s the part that has really changed in the modern environment. So, it’s not just the number. It’s about what does that number do for you and how do you plan around that number in retirement?
That’s exactly right.
